The Daintree Forest has a 100 million year old history. It contains the world’s largest concentration of primitive flowering plant species and is the oldest and second largest living rainforest in the world. Among its species of fauna are the ‘saltwater’ crocodile, the elusive Cassowary bird and the Tree Kangaroo.
In 1972 scientists discovered a tree species, Idiospernum australianese, thought to have vanished from earth 100 million years ago.
